Project title: Awareness of Religious Diversity and its Dissemination in Lithuania
Summary: Data of various instances of social research indicates that members of non-traditional religious communities in Lithuania often face non tolerance and discrimination. Religious minorities are often labeled as “sects”, they are not allowed to participate in the public life of society of Lithuania.
The objective of the project is to promote democratic values and human rights. The project focuses on drawing public attention to the religious diversity and human rights of religious communities' members, it is implementet in partnership with Lithuanian Journalists Union.
During the project the partnership development seminars for journalists on religious diversity in Lithuania will be organized. Contests of the best journalist articles and photos reflecting religious diversity in Lithuania will be held. Ebook about religious diversity in Lithuania based on articles and photos of the contests will be published. Photo exhibition on religious diversity will be delivered to all 10 regional centers (apskritys) of Lithuania. Society will be informed about democratic values, religious diversity, freedom of religion.
The main beneficiaries of the project - journalists. Indirect beneficiaries – general public, religious minorities.
Project is funded by the NGO Programme Lithuania of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants) 2009-2014.
